Canada is the second largest country in the world. It covers almost 10 million square kilometers and stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. In the north, Canada reaches the Arctic Ocean. The country shares the world’s longest international border with the United States.
Canada has incredibly diverse landscapes. The Rocky Mountains run through the western provinces, while the Great Lakes region lies in the south. The Canadian Shield, a large area of ancient rock, covers much of central Canada. In the far north, there is tundra, where temperatures remain below freezing for much of the year.
The country is famous for its pure wilderness and national parks. Banff National Park in Alberta features spectacular mountain scenery with glaciers and turquoise lakes. It is the oldest national park in Canada and many visitors come to hike, ski, and see wildlife like moose and bears.
Niagara Falls on the border with the United States attract millions of visitors every year. The water falls about 50 metres down and it is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. Canada’s forests are home to wildlife such as bears, moose, and wolves.
