William Shakespeare was a brilliant writer and is regarded as the greatest dramatist of all time. He is the author of numerous sonnets, comedies, historical plays and tragedies. Shakespeare was born in Stratford, in this small half-timbered house in Henley Street. When he was only eighteen years old he married Anne Hathaway, who was eight years older than him. A few years later, Shakespeare went to London without his wife. Before long, he became a very successful writer and actor. Together with his company of actors he performed more than thirty times at the court of Elizabeth I.
