The most famous National Park in all of America is the Grand Canyon. Absolutely breathtaking is the first glance down into the wide, deep valleys and ravines of this wonder of the world. The Colorado River, the second largest river in the U.S., has cut a deepness here as far down as 1,800 meters into the colorful stones. Nowhere else in the world can you impressively recognize how violent the force of nature can be. The river needed several million years to create this gigantic landscape.
The age of the layers of the rocks that were exposed here is also unique. Over two billion years old, they are almost half as old as the planet earth itself. And depending on the position of the sun and time of day, these ancient stones shine in intense colors from light yellow to dark red. A highway and many trails go along the southern rim of the canyon. Many different lookout points always reveal new views into the ravines.
