The Flatiron Building received its name because it has the shape of an iron. After its construction in 1902, the Flatiron Building quickly became one of New York’s most famous skyscrapers.

New York's boroughs
term #1
word #1
The United States of America is inhabited by more than 330 million people. New York is also known as the Big Apple, and it is the city with the largest population in the country.
About 20 million people live in the Greater New York area, and about 9 million live in the five boroughs of the city area. In no other city in the world do people of so many different ethnicities, nations, languages, and religions live together as here in New York. This is why the city is often called a melting pot.
The population can be divided into 35 percent White, 28 percent Latino, 24 percent African-American, and 12 percent Asian. As a result of this cultural diversity, about 800 different languages are spoken in the New York metropolitan area. In almost 40% of all households, people communicate in a language other than English.
The difference between rich and poor is much greater in the USA than in European countries. Also in the streets of New York you can spot poor and homeless people alongside wealthy residents.
